Bridget Wilkins
Relationship and
Psychosexual Therapy
Things get easier when you can see more clearly…
Bridget Wilkins - Relationship and Psychosexual Therapist (MBACP, Accred. COSRT.)
Before training as a therapist I worked at the BBC as a producer. I met many people deeply affected by life-altering events, and I learned that the balm to these challenges was always human connection. Our partners, family and friends impact our mental and physical wellbeing every day.
I trained at Tavistock Relationships because it is a world-renowned clinic with 75-years of relationship expertise. I now work there too, as a lecturer, senior clinician and co-Head of the Psychosexual Training programme. I have also worked within a leading NHS Psychosexual Clinic.
As a specialist in relationship and psychosexual work, I can help you clarify what is actually happening in your relationship and guide you to the life you really want.

How I can Help
We can all get stuck, repeating patterns of thinking and behaviour that risk limiting our horizons and our happiness. Therapy changes this. Though it can seem daunting at first, the counselling process can also be liberating and life enhancing.

Psychosexual or Sex Therapy
Losing confidence in sex or in your sexual functioning impacts how you feel about yourself and your partner. Many of us will be thrown by boundary breaches, one or two difficult experiences or simply the stresses of life. Yet touch, sensuality and feeling safely vulnerable help us rebalance and return to pleasure. Together we can work out what has gone wrong and think about a tailored programme of exercises you can do at home to get your sex life back on track.

Couples or Relationships Therapy
You may be in a long-term marriage, a partnership or something more short term. In relationship therapy we will explore your triggers, patterns and the dynamics that might keep you in repetitive arguments or feeling a bit lost or lonely. Once you have clarity, it is much easier to get back to a more creative and supportive partnership.

Integrative Work
Very often our closest relationships are a complex mix of mind and body. When one aspect is struggling this will impact the other and vice versa. As a relationship and psychosexual therapist I can work with you on both. We will develop a bespoke plan that will slowly re-integrate and re-establish your original, unique connection.
I will work with you at your pace to guide you through your current challenges and towards a relationship that feels nourishing and supportive.

Five reasons to go for sex therapy
When we think about sex therapy, we assume it is a ‘separate’ space to deal with a body part that ‘isn’t working’. But it is often more complicated than this: our bodies are us, and we are our bodies, which are entwined with our relationship with our sexual partner.

I work from both a psychodynamic and psychosexual perspective. Psychodynamic means thinking about your experience of relationships in the past and exploring how these may still be impacting you now. Psychosexual work integrates this perspective too, but also incorporates educational resources and a series of well established exercises that can help you alter patterns and negative expectations.

I offer open ended sessions. Usually I will see you and your partner for several months in weekly sessions, until things feel easier between you.
-
Your sessions will be 50 minutes long and will take place at the same time and on the same day each week (where possible).
-
At present I only work in person. Your sessions will be held weekly at 6 Pembridge Mews, London W11 3EQ. We will have an initial online session to discuss the issues you wish to process and establish how I can help you. After this our sessions will be in person.

Some people seek out therapy through an intuitive feeling that something is amiss, or not quite right in their lives or their relationships. My job is to help you clarify what is going on underneath, so you know what really needs to change in order to move forward. Other people know what they want to work on. This can include: issues with conflict and communication, managing anxiety and depression, navigating big life changes from job losses to marriage to parenting, the loss of desire in long-term relationships, unreliable erections, painful sex, the impact of infertility or miscarriage, managing traumatic experiences, dealing with grief or simply re-negotiating your couple 'contract'.

As a therapist, I am committed to ensuring that the privacy of all patients is kept protected. As a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and an Accredited Member of the College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT), I adhere to their Professional Codes of Conduct. If you decide to proceed with therapy sessions with me, we will sign an agreement together outlining our responsibilities to each other in more detail.
